The Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Oshodi Branch, Musiliu Akinsanya (aka Oluomo), has been given 24 hours to report at the Lagos State Police Headquarters in Ikeja.

The Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, gave the directive.

Aderanti, who made on the spot assessment to the area, which was affected by Wednesday morning’s clash between two factional groups of hoodlums at Oshodi, lamented destruction of properties and loss of lives, stressing that the motor parks may be shut if officials of the union fail to stop the brigandage.

“If you people cannot comport yourselves and decide to endanger lives of innocent residents of the state who mostly carry out their businesses and ply the routes that adorn this area, I would have no other option than to recommend closure of the motor parks in Oshodi to the appropriate authorities.

He was later conducted round scene of the clash in company of some senior police officers, while he expressed shock at the level of destruction.

The CP said the squabble between the factional groups should be blamed on unnecessary power tussle among the high-profiled officials of the union, adding that the resultant destruction and killings were actions and counter-reactions of their followers.

He, however, reiterated the police resolve to provide security for people of the state, stressing that those officials of various units of the union, who are currently in the police custody will be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter is concluded.

Meanwhile, the state Vice-Chairman of NURTW, Wale Ajilo, told journalists that the union’s executive are yet to be briefed on what actually transpired, though they have decided to wade into the matter and promised that with police assistance, they would get to the root of the disagreement.
