Ojukwu’s secret child

It seems unbelievable but it’s very much true. Even Bianca, the beloved wife of late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, could hardly believe her ears this morning when a lady she had never heard of was recognised in his will and bequeathed with a hotel.

In the will presented by Mr. Dennis Ekoh, Chief Registrar of the Enugu High Court, the late Ezeigbo Gburugburu identified one Tenny Haman among his children. Ojukwu listed his children as Tenny Haman, Chukwuemeka Jnr, Mmegha, Okigbo, Ebele, Chineme, Afam and Nwachukwu.

Ojukwu willed Jubilee Hotel, Zaria, Kaduna State to Tenny Haman.

Bianca, who is Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, said she was shocked at the disclosure that her late husband had a daughter whom she said he never mentioned to her.

Bianca, however, expressed satisfaction with the will, which favoured her. The News Agency of Nigeria quotes her as saying: “It was a fair will. This time round, he did not disappoint us.”

The will, the reading of which was witnessed by Bianca, Mr. Val Nwosu, Ojukwu’s first cousin, and Mr. Mike Ejemba.

In the will, Ojukwu, gave the palatial Casabianca Lodge at No. 7, Forest Crescent, GRA, Enugu, two property at Jabi and Kuje in the FCT Abuja and all his money and personal effects to Bianca.

The one-time Head of State of the defunct Republic of Biafra also gave Bianca two plots of land in his village, Nnewi, in Anambra State but with a clause that if she re-marries, the land should be taken away from her. He equally directed that Bianca should replace him as the trustee in the family company, Ojukwu Transport Ltd.

News Express reports that the biggest loser is Chief Sylvester Debe Ojukwu, who had been believed to be Ojukwu’s first son. He was not recognised in the will, which Emeka Jnr. as the first son and gave him the family house at Nnewi. Other landed property in the village were shared among all his children.

Ojukwu (see photo), who died November 26, 2011, aged 78, listed Bianca, Emeka Jnr. and Mr. James Chukwuneme as the trustees and executors of the will.

None of the children was present at the presentation of the will.
