Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello, has given the sum of N750 million to the 25 local government councils in the state to change the developmental narrative of the state by ensuring a wide spread of people’s oriented projects across the state.

Governor Sani-Bello said that his administration’s resolve to ensure the spread of developmental projects in all the 25 local government areas of the state is to give the people especially at the grassroots level a sense of belonging.

“Despite the meager resources of the state, we have over the years ensure spread of developmental projects across the length and breadth of the state and we are resolved to positively change the narrative of infrastructure development in the state.

“This administration will continue to initiate, promote, execute and sponsor people oriented projects that will add value to our people and improve their standard of living. This we pledged will be actualised within our meager resources,” he said.

The Governor disclosed that his visit to the councils was to enable him meet the people with a view to hearing from them on areas of their needs and to help guide in policy formulations by the government on specific preferred projects by the people.

“We are committed to the yearning and aspirations of the people. The local government tour was geared towards bottom- top approach in governance. That is why 2018 Budget is tagged ‘People Budget’,” he said.

He, however, explained that the N30 million given to each of the 25 councils for the execution of preferred projects was to be decided by councils and other stakeholders.

The local government tour tagged On-the-spot assessment and Meet the people tour started in 2017 and ended on Thursday in Chanchaga local government of the state. Each local government was given N30m as an intervention fund for quick-win projects.
