The massive investment into technical colleges by the Anamnbra State Government has finally yielded fruits as the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has accredited 11 technical colleges in the state.

Speaking during a post-State Executive Council meeting in Awka, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Ogbuefi Tony Nnacheta, said that 16 trade courses offered by the colleges had received full accreditation, while the rest received partial accreditation.

He said that government had approved the fencing of all the technical colleges in the state, adding that the ultimate aim was to make all the schools full boarding.

Nnacheta explained that the accreditation was as a result of four years of deliberate effort by the state government to revitalise technical and vocational education in Anambra State.

The Commissioner said: “The State Government had installed Biology, Physics and Chemistry laboratory suites in 60 secondary schools across the state, explaining that the idea was to deepen the core science curriculum in the school system.

“The State Executive Council has also approved the immediate recruitment of 100 teachers for the technical schools, 500 for the secondary schools, and another 500 for primary schools. Consideration will be made for retired but not tired teachers who will also serve as mentors to the schools.

“Those to be recruited are those who majored in education courses. The reason for extending the opportunity to the retired teachers was for the state to tap their wealth of experience.”
