Full academic activities have resumed at the School of Nursing and Midwifery Makurdi, Benue State, following its re-accreditation by the Council of Nursing and Midwifery.

The school had lost its accreditation three years ago as a result of poor infrastructure and inadequate manpower.

Following its reaccreditation, over 60 students who were admitted in January this year have started receiving lectures and were observed doing so when Channels TV visited the re-constructed school.

The Principal of the school, Pauline Atser, while conducting officials from the Benue State Government around the school’s facilities, including a modern sewage treatment plant, said, the era of dilapidated infrastructure, which led to the closure of the school for three years was gone.

She thanked Governor Samuel Ortom for bringing the school back to life, stressing that the school would go on to have the desired impact on health care delivery in the state.

Apart from inspecting the facilities in the school, the government officials, led by the Commissioner for Health, Cecilia Ojabo, observed academic and administrative activities during the visit.

The commissioner gave the assurance that the current administration would prevent the school from suffering neglect as it did under previous the previous administration.

The contractor, Mr. Joe Abagu, said all the facilities needed to keep the school running smoothly were already in place.

He also assured the commissioner and officials that the reconstruction of the school was properly done.

With the return of full academic activities in the school, the Benue State government hopes to produce competent nurses in the state.

It also promised to work toward the reaccreditation of the School of Health Technology Agasha, which was withdrawn in 2014. (Channels TV)
