State of the Nation: UAD spits fire, tells Nigerians to get ready to go back to the trenches

Frontline rights group, the United Action for Democracy (UAD) has told Nigerians to get ready to go back to the trenches in support of its civil disobedience against the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

UAD National Convener, Comrade Gabriel Ojuma, issued the call while assessing the group’s rally, held on Monday in Lagos, against the hardship in the country arising from the policies of the two-year-old Buhari administration.

“This is a call on Nigerians to get ready to go back to the trenches,” Comrade Ojuma told News Express. “The NAC of UAD will meet to decide the next line of action. Surely, this is not the end but the beginning of the mass action against the present administration. In the next few days you will hear from us,” he said.

The UAD National Convener expressed happiness over the success of Monday’s protest, which started from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Lagos Headquarters in Yaba and climaxed with a rally at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota.

He said: “I will salute the gallantry of the masses of this great country who heeded the call of UAD – the message to those in Buhari’s administration that enough is enough – despite the intimidation of the Buhari administration. We had over 100 policemen trailing us from Yaba to Ojota. I salute the masses for having the courage and determination to walk several kilometres despite the intimidation by the police.

“This is not a military government; this is not a police state. Let it be known to the government that UAD is on a mission to ensure that the dividends of democracy are enjoyed by the masses of this great country. They came to power and told us that they would implement policies that would benefit the masses but what we have now is poverty of ideas. UAD is ion a mission to ensure that the rule of law is implemented by government at all levels. Democracy must be upheld in every sector.”
