Thick dust haze, reduced visibility to prevail today: NiMET

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has made the following predictions about Nigeria’s weather condition for today, Thursday, January 28, 2016:

NORTHERN STATES: Sokoto, Katsina, Zaria, Potiskum and Gombe , Kano, Yelwa and Nguru will experience visibility values of less than 1,000m in thick dust haze conditions. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 12-15oC.

CENTRAL STATES: Visibility values of 1-3Km in dust haze over places like Bida, Jos, Kaduna, Abuja, Lafia, Makurdi and Yola. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 15-20oC.

SOUTHERN STATES: Moderate visibility values of 2-5km is expected over places like Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Akure, Ibadan and Lagos while Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Eket, Enugu, Awka, Owerri and environs should experience dust haze in visibility values of 1-3km. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 19-24oC.

NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry, windy and dusty. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks. Flight operations may be disrupted due to poor visibility in some airports across the country.
