An All Progressives Congress (APC) ward secretary in Edo State has opined that the current trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki is likely a measure to make him toe the party’s line.

Saraki is currently standing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal over charges of false assets declaration.

Speaking with News Express in Benin City, a ward secretary of the APC, Mr Kingsley Balogban, while voicing his support for the prosecution of Saraki, conceded that the senate President’s ordeal could have stemmed from his refusal to heed his party's agreement in his pursuit of the senate presidency.

“Well, Saraki should face the law. Nobody is above the law. Change has come to stay,” Balogban said.

When News Express asked if the possibility of Saraki going to jail if found guilty by the tribunal is real, Balogban replied: “Maybe (the trial is to) straighten him to line.”

News Express pressed further by asking about the likelihood of Saraki losing his case and relinquishing the senate presidency but not going to jail. Balogban responded: “I don’t know about that. (But) over ambition is a disease.”
