Controller-General of Prisons, Dr. Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu, has shaken up the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), redeploying officers to man some strategic Directorates, States Commands, Departments/Units and Prison formations across the country.

NPS Public Relations Officer, DCP Francis Enobore, said that the action followed the recent promotion of officers and men of the Service by the Civil Defence, Immigration, Fire and Prisons Services Board (CIFPB).

“The exercise, apart from ensuring that promoted officers are assigned to responsibilities commensurate with their new ranks, is also aimed at better service delivery to the inmates and strengthening the securing of prison facilities in the country,” Enobore said yesterday in a statement issued in Abuja.

He said that in the new arrangement, the Directorate of Finance and Accounts has DCG Umaru Saraki (covering Duties) replacing DCG Abubakar Dagaci, who proceeds on retirement, while DCG Emmanuel Ogundele (covering duties) takes over the Directorate of Operations.

Others include ACG Ewulo Jimoh incharge of zone ‘F’, Ibadan; CP Abubakar Yusuf, Jigawa State Command; CP Musa Maza, Kogi State Command; Kassim K. G., Ogun State Command; CP Ogunmola T. A., Oyo State Command; CP Adetoyi A. C., Kwara State Command; CP John Mmrabure, Rivers State Command; CP Mmeabe Legbosi, Bayelsa State Command; CP Peter Tenkwa, Adamawa State Command; CP Jemilehin Abimbola takes over as the Principal of Borstal Training Institute, Abeokuta.

The ress are CP Odahro Daniel, FCT Command; DCP John Igbovia, in charge of Medium Security Prisons, Lagos; DCP Ahmed Usman, Kaduna Prison; DCP Odutan Seyi, Max. Prison, Lagos; DCP Julius Ezeugwu, Ikoyi Prison, DCP Kalu Mathew, Owerri Prison; Abubakar Sadiq, Sokoto Prison, among others.

“Dr. Ekpendu charged the officers, particularly those in charge of Prison yards, to ensure that welfare and security of persons in prisons custody are held sacrosanct, hence the need for close supervision of line officers at all times,” Enobore stated.
